Revisiting & Reworking “Collide 240”

Not every painting can be a masterpiece or everyone’s favorite.

But that doesn’t mean it can’t still become a better painting.

I learn a lot through self-evaluation as well as listening to and watching visitors at the galleries where my artwork is exhibited. So, every-so-often, I take a look at my works and revisit them, I re-evaluate, and sometimes I rework a piece.

With “Collide 240” I thought I needed to accentuate the “collision” a bit more. I also thought the shape of the canvas was too long and the negative spaces lacked interest and energy.

To improve the painting I reshaped the canvas to something more pleasing. I added 5 starbursts which bring energy to the piece. Finally, in the negative spaces, I added some gradation for visual interest and movement.

With “Collide 240” the number “240” stood for the total number of pieces of canvas that made up the painting. With the changes made, the name has been changed to simply “Collide.”
